COLD DRAWING

coil of rolled steelCold drawing consists of drawing descaled hot rolled steel bars through carbide dies of the proper size and shape to produce a bright smooth finish. This process imparts, not only exactness in size and cross-section, but also improves mechanical properties and machinability.

BENEFITS OF COLD DRAWING:

Finish – After surface preparation, cold drawing imparts a bright, smooth and uniform bar finish.
Accuracy – Cold Finishing provides exactness in size and cross-section.

Mechanical Properties – The yield and tensile strengths of steel are increased by cold drawing, therefore, often eliminating the need for expensive thermal treatments of manufactured parts.

Straightness – Cold drawn bars offer much improved straightness over hot rolled bars, making the material more suitable for further processing.

 

GRINDING

grinding machine up close We have upgraded our capabilities with a new state-of-the-art Cincinnati 320-75 Centreless Grinder featuring laser gauging. It provides us with two-way, automatic, computerized sizing control with the result that we can maintain tight, consistent tolerances within each bar and from bar to bar. It also features quick change-over automated conveyors and tables covered with a protective layer of UHMW/Urethane; an in-line fibre tubing station to guard against surface damage and a new coolant system with chillers to optimize surface finish.
In addition, we have other grinders with the capacity to provide a full range of ground bars from 1/2” to 4 1/2”.

 

Non-Destructive Testing Capabilities

Our Eddy Current Testing combines an encircling coil and Roto-Bar Testing utilizing air ride probes for surface inspection. We can also utilize the encircling coil technique for grade separation.
